John was driving the ambulance from McLennan to Grande Prairie with his partner, a patient and the patient’s family member in the back. A trailer on a truck hauling empty propane tanks came loose, crossing the centre line and killing John at the scene. The other three passengers received non-life threatening injuries. John is a recently retired math teacher who also had over 30 years of EMS service in varying roles from full-time to casual, working alternately as an EMT and at times as an EMS manager.
